Maui Mark Designs
Mark is a Maui-based artist who has been creating art on the island since 1982. He is a graduate of Art Instruction School in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he studied various forms of art, including portraits, landscaping, cartooning, advertising design, contemporary art, and commercial art design. During his time at the school, he had the opportunity to learn from Charles Schulz, the creator of the cartoon "Peanuts".
After completing his studies at Art Instruction School, De Colibus continued his education at Harbor College, earning a graduate degree in Art Design. He then pursued a degree in commercial Art design at Long Beach State College.
Throughout his career, Mark has received numerous awards on a national and international scale for his artwork. His art focuses primarily on island themes, such as portraits, island seascapes, flowers, and animals. He even has a series of seven zebras, created with pastels and prismacolor pencils, despite zebras not being native to the Hawaiian islands.
Mark believes in the diversity of art and views it with an open mind. He sees art as a way to capture a moment in time and evoke emotions. His artwork, which he has been creating for over 43 years, aims to give viewers a lasting memory of the beauty of Maui and the Aloha spirit. He hopes that his art sparks a love for Hawaii's culture, land, and people.
In his signature sign-off, Mark De Colibus invites people to "Take home a piece of Paradise" and encourages the falling in love all over again with the true value and meaning of the Aloha Spirit.
